So last weekend was pretty mellow and relaxing. Saturday I went down to Santa Cruz with [info]basilbadger and [info]krominof, mainly hitting the boardwalk, arcade, and a few shops in the downtown. The thing that I like about the Boardwalk is that it never changes. Visited the place was fun because just about everything a nice retro 80s feel to it. The art, the music (though there was some modern day music), even a lot of the games in the arcade were retro, was awesome. Not to mention it is simply cool to have a carnival like amusement boardwalk right next to the beach, and Santa Cruz just has a nice spirited feeling to it. Anyways, on to the pictures behind the cut...

We hope to go again some time and visit the nature bridges. If so I'll be bringing along little Syrus for the trip ;]

Did you go play the Korean Drummania 5th Mix that you have to stand up at?

I took a stool from one end of the Boardwalk all the way to the big arcade at the other end to play once, got caught, and got kicked out :P

I wanted to play the Drummania but I only had $10 bills on me and didn't want to have that many tokens :p This one had a stool this time, and there was also some free style drum game right across from it which was weird.

My favorite boardwalk is in Sopot on the Baltic Sea shore.
Been there a few times and enjoyed it very much.
Not to mention the long pier...too bad I live about 500 miles away.

Glad to know you had fun.
Guess during summer it's more crowded that in the photos;)
Wanna visit California some day. However,my friends were in Frisco and said it's rather cold and expensive.

Bad Ass Coffee-sounds delicious;)

It becomes very crowded during the summer! Was nice to go when we did with such a low and mellow crowd. I kind of like the scene at night last I went as a kid.

Gotta love a cafe with such a striking name, gets the job done ;] I did like their set up, had a nice air and feel to it. I can be a sucker for the surf and beach scene many times.

Looks neat, anothe place to wander senselessly and find a bazillion little shops selling stupid crap to tourists..I'd hit it.

Santa Cruz...also the city where the Mayor Declared it a "Lou Dobbs Free Area" for the month of March, cause Dobbs disagreed with some of the things going on:P.

It's actually not as touristy as one may think. Very few tourist shops at the boardwalk, most food and carnival games with prizes, and rides as you can tell. Wondering in the downtown was a lot of local and private owned businesses that really aren't touristy either. Santa Cruz being the nice beach area that it is, it is a bit odd ball that there aren't more tourist shows like Pier 39 had stocked ;]
